Serena Reacts to Cat Suit Ban by Donning a Tutu at US Open

These days Serena Williams seems to hit the headlines for her outfits just as much as for her tennis performances. At the French Open, Williams had worn a Black Panther-inspired catsuit that drew an incredible amount of attention. This week the president of the French Tennis Federation Bernard Giudicelli announced the style of outfit is banned and said of her choice of outfit: “It will no longer be accepted. You have to respect the game and the place.”

Williams had said the catsuit had been designed to help prevent blood clots and was the outfit she chose for her first Grand Slam tournament following her maternity break.

Williams progresses to next round of US Open

In her first round match at the US Open win against Magda Linette, she wore another outfit that got everybody talking. The design by Off-White founder Virgil Abloh consisted of a one-should top and a black tutu.

Whether she will continue to wear a tutu as she progresses into the later stages of the tournament remains to be seen. It is likely that she was making a statement in reaction to the catsuit ban.

Next match against Witthoeft today

Her next match sees her take on Carina Witthoeft later today and viewers will be excited to see what outfit she will be wearing just as much as they will be wanting to see her tennis skills. The 23-time Grand Slam winner will equal Margaret Court’s 24 singles majors if she can succeed and win the final. Having already won the US Open 6 times in her career, it is a tournament that Serena has fond memories of – imagine if she won the final wearing a tutu. What would the president of the French Tennis Federation have to say about that?!
