Sensational news! Herbert and FC Bayern end their collaboration

Sensational news at FC Bayern: After a year and a half, head coach Gordon Herbert is leaving FC Bayern with immediate effect.

The Canadian and FC Bayern agreed on Saturday to terminate their collaboration. This decision was made after lengthy discussions between the two parties and “for the good of the team and the club,” as the club announced.

This is FCBB’s response to the negative streak of eight consecutive defeats in the EuroLeague. Initially, the current assistant coaching staff will take care of the team, and according to the press release, a successor should be named by the next EL game on Tuesday.

“First of all, we would like to thank Gordie for his work. He was responsible for the enormous increase in enthusiasm for basketball in Munich last season,” said sporting director Dragan Tarlac. “Unfortunately, however, there are situations in sport that require change.”

FC Bayern wants to ignite “new fire”

“Gordie is not responsible for the personnel situation after the European Championship summer, the injuries to key players, the very unfavorable schedule, and his own absence due to illness. Nevertheless, it is now clear to everyone that we have reached a point where we need to help the team, which always gives its all, with new impetus. We regret this very much and both of us would have liked things to be different. But we still have big goals ahead of us and the EuroLeague season is not even halfway through. We trust our team and hope that an outside influence will break down obvious barriers and rekindle the fire,” he explains. Herbert took over the Munich team in the summer of 2024 after finishing fourth with the national team at the Olympics. With FC Bayern, he won the German championship last season and lost to Real Madrid in the play-in.
