Second Hungarian for Liverpool: Kerkez arrives from Bournemouth

It has been considered a done deal for days that Milos Kerkez will leave AFC Bournemouth after two years and join Liverpool FC. Now the Reds have officially announced the signing of the Hungarian left-back.

Liverpool FC continues to splash the cash in the current transfer window. In addition to the signings of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez is also moving to Anfield Road. According to reports, the transfer fee for the 21-year-old, who is expected to form a partnership with Frimpong on the left side, is €47 million. Kerkez has signed a “long-term contract.”

In Liverpool, Kerkez will provide competition for Andrew Robertson, whose contract expires after the upcoming season. At the same time, Kerkez is also being considered as a long-term replacement for the Scot, who has been a regular on the left side of defense in recent years but whose future at the club is still uncertain—there have been rumors of interest from Atletico Madrid.

“It’s a great honor for me, a privilege to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, the biggest club in England. I’m just very, very happy and excited,” said Kerkez.

Eight points in the last PL season

Kerkez is particularly known for his attacking instincts. In the last Premier League season, which he played almost in its entirety – he only missed 78 minutes – he contributed two goals and six assists for Bournemouth. In two years with the Cherries, he made a total of 66 appearances in the English top flight. The Hungarian, who came to European professional football via AC Milan’s U19 team, previously spent a season and a half with AZ Alkmaar. With the Dutch side, he reached the semi-finals of the Conference League in the 2022/23 season, contributing two goals and three assists in eleven games.

Despite his young age, Kerkez has already gained a wealth of experience playing for his country. He has made 23 appearances for the senior national team, three of them at last year’s European Championship in Germany. He will now be playing alongside one of his compatriots at club level in Dominik Szoboszlai.

For Bournemouth, on the other hand, Kerkez’s departure means the loss of another key player, following Dean Huijsen’s move to Real Madrid. At least the Cherries will be financially rewarded, breaking the three-digit million mark in terms of revenue. However, they have already made provisions for Kerkez’s departure by signing Adrien Truffert.
