Salah improves Torres record after quartet to goals

Mohamed Salah is unstoppable in the Premier League. The attacker guided Liverpool on Saturday with a four-blapper past Watford: 5-0. Salah took his season total to 36 goals in official matches. He became the player with the highest number of goals ever in a debut season for Liverpool: Salah improved the record of Fernando Torres (33 in 2007/08). Moreover, he became the first Egyptian to ever have a hattrick in the Premier League. Liverpool is the number three in the Premier League.

Salah was able to break the Torres record in the first half of the year. The attacker struck for the first time in the fourth minute. Salah was found on the right flank by Sadio Mané, forced into the penalty area and hijacked two defenders with a movement. Face to face with goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis the Egyptian stayed cool: 1-0. Liverpool, with Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum at the base, set the tone for the rest of the competition. The Reds seldom got into trouble and Salah made 2-0 of them before the break.

Two minutes before the break Salah appeared at the second pole. He was found by Andrew Robertson, escaped his guard and got hit. Liverpool hadn’t been given many opportunities in the first half, but Watford also managed to create little danger. However, Loris Karius did have to intervene after a header from Richarlison, while Karnezis processed an inset from Roberto Firmino. After the 2-0, however, the duel seemed to be running, all the more so because Liverpool also came out of the dressing room strongly in the second half. It wasn’t long before the home side did another bit of work on top of it.

This time Salah was the declarant instead of the goalkeeper. The club top scorer turned open on the right flank, steamed up and looked for Firmino. He had a clever walking action at home and rounded it off with a dumpling ball. Yet Watford did not win: the visitors were close to the 3-1, when a free kick from Roberto Pereyra burst on the bar. The pace then slowed down. Watford had a relatively large amount of possession, but did not know much about it. So the duel seemed to end silently, but Salah hit twice more. He completed his hattrick with a shot between five defenders and determined the final position with an intikker. In the competition Salah stands at 28 goals, 4 more than Harry Kane.
