The decision is valid with immediate effect
Boxers from Russia and Belarus are now allowed to return to the ring as “neutral athletes” at all international competitions worldwide.
The World Boxing Association announced this decision, citing the “approach of the International Olympic Committee”. The pugilists from both countries had been banned from international events since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago.
Boxers are not allowed to use their nationality
Like their compatriots at the recent Winter Olympics in Italy, the Russian and Belarusian boxers are not allowed to use any signs of their nationality.
Before participating, the athletes must undergo an extensive review of their stance on their home countries’ war against Ukraine.
