Tennis player Tatjana Maria has comfortably advanced to the second round at the WTA tournament in Rome.

The 38-year-old defeated Poland’s Magda Linette 6-0, 6-3 in her 77-minute opening match and will next face Sorana Cirstea (Romania/No. 26) about two and a half weeks before the start of the French Open (May 24 to June 7). For Maria, this was her first victory against Linette in their third head-to-head match.

On Wednesday, three more German players will take the court at the clay-court tournament in Italy’s capital: Tamara Korpatsch will face Solana Sierra of Argentina, Eva Lys will take on Britain’s Katie Boulter, and Laura Siegemund will face Sara Bejlek of the Czech Republic.
