Real Valladolid vs Barcelona: Can Messi and the Other Barca Stars Be Stopped This Season?

Lionel Messi Barcelona

Barcelona has now won La Liga 25 times and with Cristiano Ronaldo making the move from Real Madrid to Juventus, it seems like Barca could be on track to add more titles to their trophy cabinet. Messi looks like he still has plenty of gas left in him, so we could see a few more seasons of the magical Messi dictating the fate of La Liga. With Suarez, Coutinho and now Brazilians Rafinha and Malcom in the ranks, this team could prove to be unstoppable this season.

Betting odds

Real Valladolid – 14/1

Draw – 6/1

Barcelona – 2/11

The first match of Barcelona’s La Liga campaign resulted in a 3-0 win to the Catalan team against Alaves, with Messi hitting a brace and Coutinho also scoring. Real Valladolid could prove to be a sterner test, although Barca are clear favourites to win this match.

Valladolid started their return to La Liga with a 0-0 draw against Girona but only managed two shots in the entire game compared to Girona’s 13 shots. They will have to do something particularly special if they are to overcome the La Liga champions

Team news

Coutinho was on the bench last week but could make it into the starting line-up after his outstanding input last week and well-deserved goal to show for his efforts.

Valladolid are missing their new signing Ivi Lopez who is still recovering from an Achilles injury.

Head to head

The teams haven’t met each other in La Liga since the 2013/14 season, when Valladolid surprised Barca with a 1-0 win. The match at the Nou Camp in that season had finished 4-1 to Barcelona.
