Real Offers €150 Million for Alvarez – Atlético Responds Sarcastically

Real Madrid has made an offer for Atlético’s Julián Álvarez; the Royals are reportedly willing to pay €150 million. The Rojiblancos responded sarcastically to the Blancos’ press release.

Florentino Perez has prevailed over his rival Enrique Riquelme and remains president of Real Madrid. During the election campaign, both candidates made a few promises. The veteran leader has now made good on one of them, as he stated he intended to offer 150 million euros for a player—and has now done so. The player in question was not Michael Olise of FC Bayern, but Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid.

“Real Madrid C.F. announces that, following today’s board meeting, an offer of 150 million euros was submitted to Club Atlético de Madrid for the transfer rights of the player Julian Alvarez,” the club announced on its website.

However, the city rival was not swayed by this astronomical sum and rejected the offer. “After review and evaluation, Club Atlético de Madrid has politely declined the offer, which was made in the spirit of the good relations between the two clubs, and referred to the player’s release clause,” Real added.

A little later that evening, the city rivals responded with plenty of scorn for the Royal Club’s press release. “You’ve confused politeness with gratitude, but just so there’s no doubt: We’re not thanking you for anything. We neither review nor evaluate any offer for Julian. How could we not get along when you make us laugh even more than FC Barcelona does,“ Atlético wrote on X with plenty of sarcasm, adding: ”Given the good relations with your new president, maybe you could stop ‘stealing’ players from our academy. Thank you very much, Real Madrid.”

Barcelona also interested in Alvarez

The striker’s contract runs until 2030. His buyout clause is a whopping 500 million euros. FC Barcelona has also put out feelers for the Argentine, reportedly offering 100 million euros.

Alvarez has been playing for Atletico since August 2024 and has scored 42 goals in 94 appearances. Last season, he made 29 league appearances, scoring eight goals. He was more successful in the Champions League, where he scored ten times in 15 matches.

The striker is currently with the Argentine national team, preparing for the World Cup alongside his teammates. Alvarez has been dealing with a minor injury recently and has had to take it easy. Argentina has a friendly match against Iceland coming up tonight (3 a.m. CET), before the World Cup kicks off on June 17 (3 a.m.) with a match against Algeria. In the group stage, they will also face Austria and Jordan.
