Raphinha shines in El Clásico: Barcelona wins Supercopa against Real

The Supercopa goes to FC Barcelona again in 2026. After a spectacular first half that ended with three goals in four minutes, Real Madrid had no answer to Raphinha’s brace.

Hansi Flick had rested Lamine Yamal and Lewandowski in the 5-0 semi-final win over Bilbao, but the two starters returned to Barcelona’s starting line-up for the Clasico, replacing Bardghji and Ferran Torres. Xabi Alonso had to do without Rüdiger compared to the 2-1 win over Atletico, with Huijsen starting in place of the injured defender.

The Clasico in Jeddah took a while to get going. Real defended deep in a 5-2-3 formation and let Barcelona come at them. The Royals looked to counterattack, with Vinicius Junior finishing one such attack after 15 minutes—but not in the goal. Barca moved the ball well but only found the gap for the first time after 27 minutes, with Raphinha testing Courtois.

Raphinha first miserable, then precise

After the water break, the game picked up pace. First, Gonzalo shot harmlessly into the arms of Joan Garcia (33′), then Fermin shot well over the bar (34′), before Raphinha, after a dream pass from Lamine Yamal, missed a glorious chance to take the lead in front of Courtois (35′). However, the Brazilian did not dwell on his mistake for long. A minute later, he ran at Tchouameni at speed, shot through his legs and precisely into the right corner to make it 1-0 to Barcelona (36′).

It was a blow for Real, who were subsequently unable to free themselves from the pressure of the Catalans. Fermin and Lamine Yamal had further chances, but both were denied by Courtois (41st, 42nd). However, with five minutes of added time on the clock, madness ensued in Jeddah – and Vinicius Junior got the ball rolling: the Brazilian left Koundé standing first with a sprint, then with a nutmeg, and finished his solo run across half the pitch into the right corner (45+2). It was his first goal after 18 games without scoring.

Gonzalo crowns the madness

Barcelona shook it off quickly and responded immediately through Lewandowski, who delicately lifted the ball over Courtois into the net after a pass from Pedri (45+4). But the spectacle continued, as Huijsen headed Rodrygo’s corner onto the crossbar, but Gonzalo was on hand to knock the rebound into the net with the help of the underside of the crossbar (45+6). Three goals in four minutes, after which both teams were able to take a breather.

Vinicius Junior continued to be on fire after the restart, with the Brazilian testing Joan Garcia several times (52′, 56′). Things got heated in Jeddah after a hard, tactical foul by Asencio on Pedri led to a scuffle. In addition to the culprit, Valverde and Eric also saw yellow (57′).

Mbappé celebrates comeback and is fouled hard by de Jong

Barcelona lost their rhythm and gave the ball away too often. Real continued to create chances, with Rodrygo also failing to beat Joan Garcia (63′). The Royals missed the chance to take the lead for the first time in this phase. Barcelona punished them for the third time after a long period of possession: substitute Olmo found Raphinha on the edge of the box. His shot was deflected decisively by Asencio, leaving Courtois with no chance (73′). As in last year’s Supercopa, Raphinha scored twice.
Xabi Alonso reacted, pulling his ace out of the sleeve with Mbappé – Alaba also celebrated his comeback. However, Real were unable to get the Frenchman involved in the game because Barcelona played cleverly and kept the ball in their own ranks for a long time. The Royals were desperate, but gained new courage after de Jong was shown a straight red card for a rough foul on Mbappé (90+1).

Joan Garcia seals Barcelona’s victory

Real played the final minutes with a man advantage, but first had to survive a counterattack by Rashford (90+6). However, they then had two chances to equalize, but Carreras and Asencio both finished far too tamely from promising positions and were denied by Barca’s strong goalkeeper Joan Garcia (90+6, 90+7).

The Supercopa went to FC Barcelona for the second time in a row, while Xabi Alonso will have to wait a little longer for his first title as Real coach. Both teams will be back in league action next weekend. Real play Levante on Saturday (2 p.m.), while Barcelona face a tough test in San Sebastian on Sunday evening (9 p.m.).
