PSV break the 100-goal barrier and are on the verge of the championship

PSV Eindhoven once again impressed with an offensive firework display: the game was already decided after eleven minutes in the 8-0 win at Heerenveen – thanks to two former Bundesliga professionals.

PSV Eindhoven are having an outstanding season: the Red & Whites only failed to win four of their first 30 league games. Accordingly, the question was not whether PSV would become champions, but when. The Eindhoven side got their first chance to wrap up the championship early on Thursday evening: they had to pick up more points in Heerenveen than rivals Feyenoord in the later game of the evening in Deventer.

PSV showed right from the start that they were determined to do their bit by taking three points. As usual, the visitors came out with enormous pressure and made the early decision in the opening quarter of an hour: Thanks to Til’s opening goal (7th) and Tillman’s brace (9th, 11th), Peter Bosz’s side were already 3:0 ahead after just eleven minutes.

Veerman receives applause from the home fans

However, they remained hungry and broke the 100-goal barrier in the current Eredivisie season before the break. After Til’s second goal (30′), it was Veerman of all people who scored his 100th goal at his old stomping ground (40′). While the goalscorer did not celebrate, he also received a few cheers from the home fans

Despite the clear half-time lead, the team’s two top scorers did not get on the scoresheet in the first 45 minutes. However, Bakayoko – the youngster scored superbly from distance (52′) – and de Jong (71′) made up for this in the second half. Joker van Aanholt put the finishing touches to the game seven minutes before the end of normal time with his first goal of the season

Highest away win

With their highest away win in the club’s history, PSV continue to equal Ajax Amsterdam’s points record (93 points). However, there was no spontaneous party late on Thursday evening. Feyenoord Rotterdam won 3:1 at Go Ahead Eagles and caused a delay in this regard. While Feyenoord got their CL ticket, PSV will be looking to clinch the championship next week on Sunday against Sparta Rotterdam at their own Philips Stadium (12.15pm).
