Pogba likely to miss ManUnited for months – Will crowd favourite benefit?

Paul Pogba (28) will be unavailable to Manchester United at least until the end of the year. Possibly even much longer.

The thigh injury Paul Pogba suffered during training with the French national team may be much worse than expected. As Man United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer announced on Friday, Pogba will miss at least six to eight weeks, but perhaps even twelve. In that case, the record-breaking purchase of the record champion would be out until February.

After collecting seven assists in his first four league games, Pogba – like the rest of the squad – was once again in a performance slump before his injury.

Will Donny van de Beek benefit from this? The 40 million euro Dutchman, who has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford since his move from Ajax, has become something of a crowd favourite with the fans due to his strange status under Solskjaer. In the recent 2-0 defeat to ManCity, when van de Beek was once again substituted just before the end, ManUnited fans chanted his name for minutes.

“His approach to the game and training is spot on and I can’t blame him,” Solskjaer said on Friday. “Donny believes he should play more and that’s what he will do. He will reap his rewards.” Possibly as early as Saturday  at Watford FC.
