Planes no longer FC Barcelona sporting director

Further bad news for the struggling FC Barcelona: The Catalans will have to look for a new sporting director.

As the current ninth-placed team in La Liga announced on Tuesday evening, sporting director Ramon Planes has asked for his contract to be terminated. Actually, the 54-year-old would have been tied to Barça until 30 June 2022.

Planes, who among other things was responsible for the signing of midfield jewel Pedri, does not yet have an official successor. The current advisor Jordi Cruyff, son of legend Johan Cruyff, could be promoted.

The FCB “thanks Planes for his commitment, professionalism and contribution over the past two years and wishes him all the best and success for the future,” it said in a statement.
