FC Bayern’s basketball team have made an impressive start to the new BBL season. In their clash with Bamberg Baskets – a match marked by Anton Gavel’s return to his former club – the Munich side had already pulled away to an unassailable lead by half-time.
Bamberg started the game with great determination: three-pointers from Scott and Balint put the visitors 6–10 ahead early on. That woke the sleeping lion: Bayern ended the first half with an incredible 24–3 run and showed no sign of letting up after the first quarter break.
Returnee Rokas Jokubaitis broke the 20-point mark with an and-one after just a few minutes. Driven by the depth of their squad, the home side were able to maintain relentless pressure. A case in point: all twelve players in the Munich squad scored at least once!
Bamberg, by contrast, could only score from two-point range, but made too many mistakes with 18 turnovers. Consequently, the 30-point deficit was reached just a few minutes after the break, and the game was as good as over.
On the Munich side, no fewer than seven players recorded at least nine points on the box score: Justinian Jessup and Johannes Voigtmann led the way with 15 points each. Bamberg’s Jordan Wright was the game’s top scorer with 16.
