The decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers was, however, a decision against several other teams. One of them: LeBron’s longtime rival, the Golden State Warriors. According to a new report, James would have considered a move to San Francisco only under one condition.
This stems from an ESPN article. According to reporter Ramona Shelburne, who spoke with league officials about the matter, a move to Golden State had only been “attractive for a while” to James.
A source close to the 41-year-old also said that a decision in favor of the Warriors would only have been made if the franchise had also managed to bring in LeBron’s friend Anthony Davis. The Warriors did indeed consider such a deal. However, the asking price from the Washington Wizards was simply too high, which ruled the California team out of James’ plans.
LeBron has a close friendship with Anthony Davis. The two played together for the Los Angeles Lakers from 2019 to 2025 and even won a championship in purple and gold in 2020.
In the end, however, James opted for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he signed a 1+1 contract and will earn $4 million per year.
