The Chinese athlete is supporting a charity with one million yuan.
Following the devastating flash flood in the Himalayas, Chinese Olympic tennis champion Zheng Qinwen donated the equivalent of approximately 130,000 euros (one million yuan) to a charity for relief efforts.
“She will continue to closely monitor the progress of relief efforts and hopes that her compatriots in the disaster-stricken area will be able to overcome these difficulties as quickly as possible and rebuild their homes,” the China Charity Federation announced.
Last week, glacial floods surged down from the border between Tibet and Nepal. Nearly 4,500 people are missing, and more than 900 deaths have already been confirmed.
Zheng, a gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Games, is currently competing at the U.S. Open. In the first round, the 23-year-old defeated Kristina Lyutova of Russia 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
