Just under ten months after his costly transfer, Lois Openda is already leaving Juventus Turin. As was announced on Tuesday afternoon, the Belgian is joining Olympique Lyon on a one-season loan.
Juventus Turin paid around 47 million euros for Lois Openda’s services in September 2025, but that chapter is now on hold for the time being. As announced by last year’s sixth-place finisher in Serie A, Openda is joining Olympique Lyon on a one-year loan.
Mostly on the bench at Juve
Before signing a permanent contract, the Belgian initially joined the Old Lady on loan (for a fee of around 4 million euros) from RB Leipzig, where he had made a name for himself in the 24/25 season with 24 points (13 goals and 11 assists)—including a mandatory buyout clause.
At Juventus, however, Openda was largely unsuccessful. Although the now 26-year-old made 34 competitive appearances for his new club last season, he was mostly limited to brief cameos. In addition, his goal tally of just two goals fell well short of expectations.
Openda is now set to make a fresh start on the field in Lyon. At OL, he will play alongside players such as Moussa Niakhaté, Orel Mangala, Corentin Tolisso, and Julien Duranville, all of whom, like the Belgian, have a history in the Bundesliga.
