No change within Europe: Müller narrows down options for next club

Thomas Müller has confirmed that he wants to continue his career. It remains unclear where he will do so. One thing is certain, however: Müller will not be playing for a club in Europe.

“I still want to play soccer, which is why I’ve decided to continue playing,” Müller confirmed in a video published by Bild during a commercial shoot. Where he will do so remains unclear. However, the 35-year-old 2014 World Cup winner has at least narrowed down the area where his next stop will be: According to Müller, a move to a European club is not part of his plans.

“It will definitely be an experience abroad, and I’m really looking forward to it,” said the long-time FC Bayern forward. “I’m curious to see what happens. When you leave Bayern, the conditions are different. I’m relaxed, but I’m starting to feel a little excited.” He had recently been flirting with the idea of “more distant and exotic countries.”

Müller’s latest statements reinforce the rumors already circulating about a move to the MLS. The native of Upper Bavaria did not want to confirm this, but said: “The MLS is an interesting league, especially with the World Cup in America coming up.” The World Cup will take place in the US, Mexico, and Canada in a year’s time, and Müller would be another draw for the league in the run-up to the tournament. Müller last played for FC Bayern in the Club World Cup in the US – his final appearance after 25 years in the FCB jersey.

According to media reports, the most likely scenario is a move to Los Angeles FC, a partner club of Müller’s beloved FC Bayern. Recently, however, there have also been rumors of interest from Australian club Sydney FC, which is said to have contacted Müller. The sporting director in Sydney is Alexander Baumjohann, with whom Müller played for a year at FC Bayern.
