New worries at Bayern: Musiala suffers muscle injury

Bayern’s small squad is thinning out further. Jamal Musiala had to be substituted early in the Champions League match against Galatasaray Istanbul and will be out of the Bundesliga for the time being

It was the 37th minute when Harry Kane played Jamal Musiala through into the sixteen. The 20-year-old had injured himself in the process, so he immediately announced his substitution and grabbed his thigh.

The medical staff treated Musiala’s left rear thigh briefly on the pitch before he had to come off for Thomas Müller in the 40th minute. It was initially unclear how serious the injury was and whether there was a risk of a longer absence. After the game, coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed a muscle injury.

“At worst, it’s a torn fiber, hopefully just a strain,” he said in an interview with DAZN immediately after the game, adding: “No chance at all for Heidenheim.” The match against the newly promoted team is scheduled for Saturday.

Bayern’s thin squad – defender Matthijs de Ligt has already been ruled out for several weeks – will still have to play eight competitive matches (excluding internationals) between now and Christmas before the winter transfer window opens.

At least – a small consolation – coach Thomas Tuchel has far more options in attack to compensate for the loss of Musiala. In the defensive line, Munich’s hands are much more tied.

Nagelsmann is also worried about Musiala

Two days before the national team nomination this Friday, national coach Julian Nagelsmann also has to worry about his attacking player. The national team will play against Turkey in Berlin on November 18. In the last international match of the year, the DFB team will face Austria three days later in Vienna
