1. FC Union Berlin could soon set a new transfer record (previously Taiwo Awoniyi for 20 million to Nottingham). Premier League newcomer Hull City has expressed interest in Ilyas Ansah and has already made an offer for the striker. The English club is offering a base transfer fee of 17 million euros. On top of that, bonus payments of up to 4 million euros could be added, bringing the total offer to 21 million euros.
In return, the Tigers want to sign the 21-year-old to a four-year contract. Ansah himself is certainly open to a move to the Premier League. Now, the final hurdle is for the two clubs to reach an agreement. And presumably, it also depends on whether the “Eisernen” have a suitable replacement for the forward lined up. After all, the transfer window (open until September 1 at 8:00 p.m.) won’t be open much longer.
Ansah a regular under Coach Lustrinelli
With the Lüdenscheid native’s departure, the Berlin-based club would lose an important player. Ansah, who was signed just a year ago for 3.5 million euros from second-division club SC Paderborn, is a regular in Coach Mauro Lustrinelli’s 4-2-2-2 system, either in one of the two playmaker positions or up front. Last season, he made a splash early on with four goals and one assist in seven games, but like the rest of the team, his form gradually declined afterward.
And yet, with his tremendous speed, his one-on-one dribbling, and his precise long-range shots, he can be the kind of player who makes a difference. After all, Union Berlin doesn’t have all that many players in its roster who can create the occasional moment of surprise, which is why his departure would be a major loss. But with the transfer fee offered by Hull City, the Köpenick-based club would ultimately have a good chance of finding a suitable replacement. However, it’s important to note that a portion of the transfer fee would still go to SC Paderborn, which secured a resale clause a year ago.
