Nadal’s problem foot treated with radiotherapy

Barcelona – Just two days after his 14th win at the French Open, tennis superstar Rafael Nadal has taken care of the chronic pain in his left foot in his Spanish homeland.

The 36-year-old has undergone pulsed radiofrequency therapy in Barcelona, the Europa Press news agency and other Spanish media reported, citing circles in Nadal’s support team. The affected nerves of the foot would be numbed with this treatment and could no longer transmit the pain stimulus to the brain, they said.

Anti-inflammatory drugs in Paris

The Spaniard had injections for the discomfort before each of his seven matches in Paris. He also revealed that he had taken anti-inflammatory drugs throughout the tournament in the Bois de Boulogne. But that could not be a permanent solution, he stressed. Nadal has no intention of repeating the Paris procedure at the Wimbledon tournament, which starts in just over three weeks. His participation in the grass-court classic is therefore still questionable.

After the treatment in Barcelona, Nadal reportedly flew home immediately. In Manacor, Majorca, he wants to spend three or four days recovering from the stresses and strains of Paris. After that, he wants to resume training – but only if the therapy carried out in Barcelona has taken effect by then. A return to Barcelona for a second therapy session next week is not ruled out, it was said.
