The Champions League final was last held in Munich in 2025, and it will soon be taking place there again. As well as the two Champions League finals, UEFA has also confirmed the venues for the Europa League and Conference League finals for 2028 and 2029.
FC Bayern will soon have another chance to play a ‘Finale dahoam’. After missing out in the 2024/25 Champions League season – when Inter Milan knocked the Munich side out of the competition in the quarter-finals and later lost the final in Munich 0–5 to Paris Saint-Germain – the Bavarian capital will once again host the Champions League final in 2028. UEFA announced this on Tuesday.
This means that the Allianz Arena (known as the “Munich Football Arena” for UEFA competitions) will host the biggest match on the European club football stage for the second time in four years – and FCB will once again be eager for a rematch of the dramatic 2012 final on their home turf. Meanwhile, the 2029 final will take place in Barcelona, where the newly refurbished Camp Nou (home of FC Barcelona) will serve as the venue.
Europa League twice in Eastern Europe, Conference League in Turin
UEFA did not just announce the venues for the Champions League finals, but also revealed where the finals of the other international competitions will be held in 2028 and 2029. Whilst the 2028 Europa League final will be held at the National Stadium in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, the final the following year will take place in Romania’s neighbouring country, Serbia – at the National Stadium in Belgrade.
Meanwhile, the Conference League finals will be held in Turin (2028, Juventus Stadium) and Budapest (2029, Puskás Arena).
Super Cup outside Europe
Planning for the UEFA Super Cup, in which the Champions League winners face the Europa League winners at the start of each season, had not yet progressed very far, so the hosts for 2027 and 2028 have now been announced. Next year, the match will take place at the Johann Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, whilst 2028 will be a little more exotic.
The Super Cup will take place in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, which is notable in that the venue is outside Europe.
The Women’s Champions League finals, on the other hand, will be held in Lyon in 2028 and in the Welsh capital, Cardiff, in 2029.
