Moto3 Mugello FT1: Dennis Foggia clearly in front at the opening practice

Leopard rider Dennis Foggia is the only rider to set a 1:56 time at the opening practice of the Moto3 in Mugello – World Championship leader Sergio Garcia only in position 14

Honda rider Dennis Foggia secured the fastest time in the opening practice session of the Moto3 World Championship at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello. Foggia clocked a 1’56.916 lap in front of his home fans, making him the only rider to go under 1’57”

Even at the start of FT1 at 9:00am, the 30 Moto3 riders found summer-like conditions. The air temperature was already 23°C. The conditions were perfect for good lap times.

In the end, Dennis Foggia came within less than a second of the pole record (1’56.001) and took the FT1 best time. Moto3 veteran John McPhee followed in second position on his Husqvarna. Team-mate Ayumu Sasaki completed the good team result in third.

WM leader Sergio Garcia (GasGas) finished FT1 outside the top 10, with the Spaniard 1.708 seconds behind in 14th. Particularly worrying from Garcia’s point of view was that World Championship rival Foggia didn’t do just one fast lap. Foggia produced an impressive stint at the end of FT1, setting a series of fast laps.

The gaps in FT1 were bigger than usual. Diogo Moreira (KTM) was already 0.934 seconds behind in fourth. Tatsuki Suzuki (Honda), Riccardo Rossi (Honda), Izan Guevara (GasGas), Mario Aji (Honda), Daniel Holgado (KTM) and Andrea Migno (Honda) completed the top 10 in FT1.
