George Russell is making positive headlines during the Formula 1 summer break: The Mercedes driver proposed to his partner, Carmen Mundt
From a sporting perspective, things in Formula 1 don’t seem to be going as well for Mercedes driver George Russell as the 28-year-old Brit had hoped before the start of the season. In his personal life, however, things are going all the better: Russell proposed to his longtime partner, Carmen Montero Mundt, during the summer break.
The current third-place driver in the World Championship shared the happy news on social media and posted several photos of the special moment. According to the photos, the Brit popped the question to his partner during a romantic dinner on the beach.
Russell apparently got down on one knee in front of his partner by candlelight. Along with the photos, the Mercedes driver simply posted a ring and a white heart in the comments. The reaction wasn’t long in coming: Within less than 24 hours, the post had already received more than two million likes.
Russell and Montero Mundt have been a couple since 2020
Russell and Montero Mundt have been a couple since early 2020, after meeting through a mutual friend. Since then, the Spanish woman has been a regular presence in the Formula 1 paddock alongside the Mercedes driver.
Montero Mundt works in the financial sector and recently launched her own skincare brand, Barriers. Born in Spain, she moved to the UK at age 18 to study. She graduated from the University of Westminster with a degree in business administration and finance.
Russell has emphasized on multiple occasions just how important his partner is to him. In June 2026, he spoke to The Times about the significance of Montero Mundt and hinted that a wedding in the coming years was certainly a possibility.
“Carmen gives me stability when it comes to racing, and at the same time, a way to unwind,” Russell explained. “Without a doubt, she is my future. So I hope we’ll get married at some point. It won’t be next week, but it won’t take longer than five years either. Somewhere in that timeframe.”
Congratulations from the Formula 1 paddock
The engagement also brought joy to Russell’s colleagues. Numerous congratulations from the Formula 1 paddock reached the couple shortly after the announcement. “Congratulations to both of you, my friend,” wrote Russell’s Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli in the comments.
Alpine driver Pierre Gasly, Mercedes, Williams, Formula 1 itself, and Lily Muni He, Alex Albon’s fiancée, also congratulated the newly engaged couple. Whether things will now start going better for Russell on the track as well remains to be seen after the summer break…
