McLaren wins the 2025 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship

McLaren secures the 2025 Constructors’ Championship title in Singapore – and overtakes Williams in the all-time Formula 1 rankings

The first world championship title of the 2025 Formula 1 season has been decided: McLaren has secured the Constructors’ Championship ahead of schedule after the Singapore Grand Prix, successfully defending its title from last year.

“It’s just great,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown rejoiced in an initial reaction on Sky. “What an incredible job all the men and women at McLaren have done—everyone here at the track and everyone back at the factory. You know, Formula 1 is incredibly competitive. To achieve something like this once is damn hard—but to do it twice is just fantastic.”

This is McLaren’s tenth success in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. This moves the traditional team from Woking, England, up to second place in the “all-time rankings,” which are led by Ferrari with 16 titles. Until now, McLaren had shared second place with Williams.

Initial reactions from the McLaren team

Team principal Andrea Stella speaks of an emotional moment and looks gratefully to his team: “It’s an incredible feeling. I want to share this success with the team and thank everyone for their great work. It’s hard to believe that we were able to secure the title with six races still to go – and we owe that to the outstanding work done at McLaren. Thank you to our fans, sponsors, and technical partners. This title shows that teamwork pays off.”

With its double triumph in 2024 and 2025, McLaren has won two consecutive constructors’ titles for the first time since 1991. But the team is already looking ahead: “We are working hard to continue this success story through the new technical regulations in 2026,” emphasizes Stella. “It will be a big challenge, but we are fully committed.”

Brown concludes by praising his two young drivers, who have contributed significantly to the success: “You can’t win the Constructors’ Championship without two great drivers. They have done a fantastic job throughout the season. We let them race each other—hard but fair. It was exciting, but they fight cleanly and with the will to win.”

McLaren’s title win in the 2025 season had been on the cards for a long time: the team led by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri took the lead at the season opener in Australia—initially level on points with Mercedes. Under the direction of team boss Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, McLaren then gradually pulled away from its pursuers.

Strong car, strong drivers

McLaren’s strength in 2025 is mainly due to two factors: on the one hand, the McLaren-Mercedes MCL39 proved to be an excellent car during winter testing. On the other hand, the team has a very balanced and talented driver duo in Norris and Piastri – in contrast to Red Bull, where Max Verstappen was almost solely responsible for scoring points.

On their way to winning the Constructors’ Championship, Norris and Piastri achieved ten pole positions, eight one-two finishes, and 33 podium places in sprints and Grands Prix up to Singapore.

Drivers’ Championship: A case for the McLaren drivers?

This also makes the two McLaren drivers the favorites in the Formula 1 drivers’ championship: Piastri leads the championship standings ahead of his teammate Norris. Red Bull driver Verstappen, in third place, now only has an outside chance of winning the 2025 title. George Russell in the Mercedes and Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari are only still in the title race on paper.
