Mayweather can’t get enough of boxing and show business. He wants to celebrate more records.
American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather is coming out of retirement nine years after his last official fight.
The 48-year-old, a former world champion in several weight classes with a record of 50 wins from 50 professional fights, announced that he would resume his career after a planned exhibition fight against Mike Tyson.
“I still have what it takes to set more records in boxing,” Mayweather said in a statement to the AFP news agency.
“From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight after that, no one will reach a bigger audience, have a bigger worldwide broadcast, or make more money with each event.”
Mayweather, who turns 49 on February 24, was nicknamed “Money” and was once the highest-earning athlete in the world. His comeback fight is scheduled to take place this summer, but an opponent has not yet been named.
His last fight to date was against UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017, since then he has been fighting exhibition matches. His duel with former heavyweight world champion Tyson (59) is scheduled for April.
