Mavs looking for replacement for Kyrie – three big names in the mix

With star point guard Kyrie Irving out with a torn ACL, the Dallas Mavericks are checking out the market for a new point guard. Three big names are apparently at the top of their list.

The Dallas Mavericks are getting ready for a challenging offseason. Following Kyrie Irving’s cruciate ligament tear, which is expected to rule him out for most of the upcoming season, the front office is already actively exploring the market, according to The Stein Line. They are looking for a point guard who can temporarily take over the role of star guard.

According to the report, the Mavs have three prominent names in mind: Lonzo Ball, Chris Paul, and Jrue Holiday.

Two options currently seem particularly realistic: Lonzo Ball, who is under contract in Chicago, and Chris Paul, whose contract in San Antonio is expiring. Ball averaged 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 35 appearances last season, but his health remains a risk.

Chris Paul, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience to the table. The 40-year-old played all 82 games of the season for the Spurs and impressed with an average of 8.8 points, 7.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds. As a free agent, he would be available in the summer.

Holiday deal? Unlikely

A trade for Jrue Holiday, on the other hand, is considered unlikely. The Boston Celtics guard still has three years left on his contract, worth a total of $104 million. Both financially and logistically, a deal would be difficult to pull off.

The Mavs are facing a decisive summer – a temporary solution at point guard could have a significant impact on the 2025/26 season.
