This week has been full of disappointments for big name players that have been given the heart-breaking news that they have not made their squads for the World Cup 2018.

After scoring 29 goals in 34 games for Inter Milan, Mauro Icardi could be forgiven for thinking he had done enough to make the cut. After all, he had a great season in Serie A, finishing joint top goal scorer with Ciro Immobile.

Icardi – Out of the World Cup

Unfortunately, Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli thought otherwise and broke the news that Icardi would not be needed in Russia. With an Argentinian squad boasting the talents of Messi, Aguero and Higuain, they are hardly short of star strikers, but Icardi will be disappointed nevertheless. After an excellent season in Serie A, it will be a real kick in the teeth for the player that is rumoured to be heading for a move to Juventus FC.

Heading on safari with wife Wanda

Instead of hunting goals this summer, Icardi and his wife Wanda Icardi have headed off on a safari for a zebra animal hunt instead. The loved up couple have been sharing their amazing experience on social media, uploading pictures of elephants and other animals they have met on their African adventure. Who needs Russia when you can go on an African safari instead?!

Perhaps the love of zebras is a hint regarding the black and white stripes that he could be wearing at Juventus next season! He has certainly proven that he has got what it takes to do well in the Serie A but he has been linked with teams across Europe, including Chelsea.

With many footballers putting their transfer negotiations on hold in order to concentrate on the World Cup, the players that are not going to Russia will no doubt be getting linked with moves over the next few weeks. Icardi may already know the destination for his next adventure but Juventus remain favourites to sign the player who will have a point to prove after a summer without any competitive football.
