Tatjana Maria, Germany’s No. 2, makes short work of her opponent in Memphis.
Former Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) has kicked off the hard-court season with a win.
The German No. 2 defeated Australia’s Talia Gibson 6-0, 6-3 in just 67 minutes in her opening match at the WTA tournament in Memphis. She most recently won the grass-court Challenger in Newport.
Maria (38) will face either the No. 2-seeded American McCartney Kessler or Mexico’s Renata Zarazua in the round of 16. The next highlight of the season is the U.S. Open in New York, starting in late August.
