After a three-month injury break, Marc Marquez returns to motorcycling – How the world champion is doing and why he’s not taking a vacation right now
After a three-month injury break, MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez announced his return to motorcycling during Ducati’s title celebration.
The Spaniard will forego vacation to prepare for the 2026 season. The celebration took place in a small, almost private setting. The focus was, of course, on Ducati star Marquez, who had to end his title season prematurely following a crash. But the good news is that his rehabilitation after his shoulder injury is almost complete, the Spaniard emphasizes.
“I’m feeling much better, and next week I’ll be back on the bike. I’ve had a check-up with the doctors, and it’s now been three months since my injury. So I’ll be back on Sunday or next week to see what it’s like to ride a motorcycle again.”
Marquez: No vacation, full focus on 2026
Despite the forced break, the Spaniard’s determination has not waned. On the contrary, the time off seems to have only strengthened his hunger for success and his urge to get back on the bike.
His body is now responding much better, allowing him to focus fully on the 2026 season. Marquez is even foregoing a vacation: “No vacation, no. That’s how it is. It’s easy for me to accept. It’s a little harder for Gemma, my girlfriend. But she understands too.”
“I had to work hard, do rehab, celebrate the title. That had to be done. Today is the last day we celebrate the 2025 title, because tomorrow we’ll already be working on 2026.”
Gresini: the perfect stepping stone to the factory team
Looking back on the last two years at Ducati, Marquez is satisfied with his career: his first year with the Gresini team helped him rediscover himself and confirm his strength as a rider, while he ultimately dominated the season and the competition in the official Ducati team.
“I had to give up a lot and work very hard. But in the end, I joined the right team, on the right bike, after a great year with the Gresini team and Nadia. That’s where I found myself again. I had the right bike, and it enabled me to make the leap to the official team,” said Marquez.
He also emphasizes his personal development within these two teams: “Last year, I understood what it means to be part of the Gresini team. This year, I understood what it means to be a Ducatisti.”
“I got to know the team and felt very comfortable with everyone. And that’s the difference between a happy rider and a fast rider.”
