Lys battles on

Eva Lys survives a three-set thriller in Cincinnati and battles her way into the next round. Laura Siegemund, on the other hand, is out of the tournament.

Early exit for Laura Siegemund, hard-fought victory for Eva Lys: While Siegemund, who hails from Metzingen, has already been eliminated from the WTA tournament in Cincinnati after losing 4-6, 4-6 to Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, Lys has battled her way into the next round. The Hamburg native defeated Bernarda Pera from the USA 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Madison Keys, the sixth-seeded Australian Open winner from the USA, who had a bye in the first round, now awaits in the next round. It will be the first meeting between the two. Lys converted her first match point against qualifier Pera after a thrilling three-set thriller.

Lys needs treatment

Lys had to take a medical timeout and was already a break down in the deciding set. In between, the ventilation system also caused problems during the change of ends, which Lys took in her stride with a smile. Despite all the adversity, the German fought her way into the next round.

After Siegemund and Lys, Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) will also be in action in Cincinnati on Thursday against Victoria Osuigwe from the USA. Ella Seidel from Hamburg is also competing in the tournament.
