Lobue Victorious at Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series

LoBue Victorious at Red Bull Cliff Diving

As diving goes, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series is a spectacle that is not to be missed. The amazing setting, alongside the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was the venue for the second stop of the series and the event was every bit as exciting as the venue.

Steven LoBue was triumphant, amassing 416.15 points, followed by Jonathan Paredes, David Colturi and Blake Aldridge. Things did not work out so well for Gary Hunt who failed to make the podium for the third successful event. The six-time World Series champion has now clocked up his longest ever run without a top three result.

25,000 fans saw Steven LoBue win the second stop

This sport is not for the faint-hearted – or people who are scared of heights, as the divers thrilled a huge crowd of 25,000 with spectacular dives from 27 metres! David Colturi currently has the hardest dive and he was wowing spectators again in Bilbao.

Next stop – Azores, Portugal

The 14 daredevil divers were not put off by the rain and ensured that the crowd had plenty to cheer about. LoBue’s win takes him to the top place in the 2018 standings, with Michal Navratil in second and Great Britain’s Blake Aldridge in third place. The series has seven stops with the US and Spain having now been completed, next up is Portugal before they all head to Switzerland, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzegovina and finally Italy. With the Portugal football team now knocked out of the World Cup, at least the local fans can take their mind off football and enjoy the diving instead.

10th anniversary season

The next stop takes place on 14 July at Sao Miguel, Azores where the divers will be plunging into the Atlantic Ocean after taking off from bare rocks – a very exciting stop in the series that all of the divers will be looking forward to. This year marks the 10th anniversary season for the World Series and you can see by the locations they have chosen, they are making it a season to remember!
