Liverpool Sink United

Liverpool Sink United

Man Utd Sunk By Liverpool at Home Game

After being defeated 2-0 by Liverpool, Manchester United’s chances of progressing in the Europa League are small. For Louis van Gaal it was his first defeat against Liverpool. Unless he can perform a miracle in the 2nd leg the defeat could have lost him his job. This was the first time United and Liverpool ever played each other in Europe. Both managers fielded strong sides as this is their only realistic route to UCL football next season. United was outclassed by Liverpool’s Firmino and Coutinho running the whole pitch. United’s performance was definitely poor, if it weren’t for De Gea’s fantastic goal preventions, the scoreline for the reds would have been beyond an embarrassment.

Depay made a sloppy tackle on Clyne inside the box in the 19th minute. Daniel Sturridge scored from the spot to giving Liverpool the lead. They then went onto doubling their lead when Michael Carrick couldn’t clear the ball in his box. This was because Firmino quickly took advantage and finished in a cool manner. De Gea blocked Coutinho with his fast reflexes in the first half, onto denying Sturridge in the second stopping the ball at instant impact.  The Spanish Goalkeeper prevented what could have been six goals for Liverpool.

Man United have to be on their very best next week to go through the next round. It’s a nightmare for LVG as his side has to take on arch rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in a span of four days. The sack is inevitable if the side fails to qualify for the UCL. David Moyes sacked when UCL football was statistically impossible next season. Will history repeat itself or does LVG have something up his sleeve?
