Liverpool sent medical staff to Van Dijk out of fear of Man City's fear.

Liverpool announced on Wednesday evening the arrival of Virgil van Dijk for an amount reportedly at 84.5 million euros. The Liverpool Echo is able to report that The Reds had the Orange International inspected earlier on the day in Southampton for fear that Manchester City would intervene at the last minute.

Liverpool is said to have already instructed a medical team on Wednesday morning to fly to Bournemouth airport and await the course of the negotiations. The club of Jürgen Klopp reached an agreement with Southampton later this day, but also feared that the Citizens would intervene with an equally high bid and a higher salary for Van Dijk.

The defender is reportedly going to earn 202 thousand euros a week on Anfield and Manchester City seemed to want to go over that. However, Liverpool learned a wise lesson when last summer, next to the arrival of Van Dijk, after Southampton accused the club of having approached him illegally and the Reds felt called to withdraw publicly from the race. Liverpool has therefore left nothing to chance with the on-site inspection of the millions in profit.

Do you think Virgil van Dijk would have preferred Manchester City?
