LeBron Poker: Green Opens Up About His “Crazy” Pitch

Draymond Green has confirmed that he personally tried to convince LeBron James to join the Golden State Warriors. After a golf trip together, the four-time champion has now spoken openly about his recruitment efforts.

On his podcast, Green revealed that he took the opportunity to ask James directly about his future. “Of course I did that. Of course the pitch was crazy,” said the Warriors star. After all, it would have been “crazy” to spend several days together without discussing the four-time MVP’s uncertain future.

Green also made it clear, however, that even a persuasive conversation is no guarantee of a move. “It doesn’t automatically change anything, nor does it lead directly to a decision,” explained the 36-year-old. Nevertheless, he is convinced that his arguments had an impact.

“I don’t think a decision has been made yet. But even if it has—it might make him think twice,” Green added. The two longtime friends recently spent several days together playing golf in Puerto Rico, which further fueled rumors of a possible move to Golden State.

The Warriors have been considered one of the contenders in the race for James for weeks, even though the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers have most recently been touted as the favorites. According to reports, James is not holding face-to-face meetings with interested teams. Instead, general managers, presidents, and even team owners are said to be sending their presentations as voice messages to agent Rich Paul.

If James does indeed choose Golden State, he would form one of the most experienced star trios in NBA history alongside Stephen Curry and Green. Whether Green’s “crazy pitch” will ultimately tip the scales remains to be seen—the 41-year-old has yet to make a decision.
