The NBA championship is on the line. In the first home game of the Finals series, the New York Knicks can count on some high-profile support against the San Antonio Spurs.
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to attend at least one NBA Finals game between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. He received an invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan, Trump told reporters in Washington. “The answer is yes, he invited me, I’m going,” the U.S. president said in Washington.
He has his sights set on Game 3 of the series next Monday at Madison Square Garden, but he could also imagine attending Game 4 two days later. “Maybe I’ll do both,” Trump explained. The 79-year-old is a self-proclaimed fan of the New York Knicks. According to the North American professional basketball league, Trump would be the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game.
The second game of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Saturday night in San Antonio, once again in Texas. The New Yorkers won the first game 105-95, thanks in part to 30 points from Jalen Brunson.
Trump said he had watched parts of the game but also had to deal with military matters at the same time. “I missed the middle part because I’ve been talking to generals all evening. But I saw the end, and they were dominant,” Trump said. A team needs four wins to claim the title.
