A boisterous celebratory atmosphere at Mercedes – Kimi Antonelli caps off his commanding Monaco Grand Prix victory with the traditional jump into the harbor
Kimi Antonelli won the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix and subsequently celebrated his success in typical Monaco style.
Often, there are only a few centimeters between great triumph and great disappointment: the mood in the two Mercedes team garages couldn’t have been more different this weekend. George Russell finished without points due to an internal miscommunication, while Kimi Antonelli was the beaming and dominant winner of the Monaco Grand Prix.
After the official part of the podium ceremony and media obligations, the Mercedes team gathered for the group victory photo right by the wall of the marina in the Port of Monte Carlo
Once the photos were in the can, some team members, in a boisterous mood, began pushing their colleagues into the Mediterranean. Even Antonelli’s father, Marco, wasn’t spared and was one of the first to enjoy the refreshing dip. Kimi Antonelli followed him just moments later and voluntarily jumped into the Mediterranean Sea.
Exuberant scenes in the harbor: Fans celebrate the Antonelli moment
The scene has sparked numerous reactions from fans on social media. Among other comments, one user wrote: “Did anyone notice the photographer standing in the water with a camera? That’s real dedication to get this shot.” Another user remarked: “The first photo will be legendary if he wins the World Championship.”
There were also numerous reactions on X. Among the comments there were: “He’s obviously rehearsing for Aquaman,” and “He wins the most chaotic Monaco GP just to face the final boss: the Mediterranean Sea.”
In terms of racing, this was already Antonelli’s fifth consecutive Grand Prix victory this season. This further extends his lead in the drivers’ standings, and he is now 66 points ahead of his closest rivals. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton secured second place in the race, allowing him to move ahead of Antonelli’s teammate George Russell in the overall standings. The Briton is in third place with 88 points.
