Kerber farewell match against Ivanović

The former world number one returns for one last match. Her opponent will be her long-time companion Ana Ivanović.

Last appearance on a familiar stage: Angelique Kerber gets a farewell match two years after the end of her career. The three-time Grand Slam winner will play her long-time companion Ana Ivanović at the grass court tournament in Bad Homburg on June 20, according to Bild-Zeitung, and will return to the court once again at her own event.

“It’s the perfect stage for a special day with lots of emotions,” Kerber (38) is quoted as saying in the report. “I’m really looking forward to Ana, because somehow this match closes a circle. We’ve known each other for a really long time, she’s one of my best friends and we’ve spent a lot of time together on and off the court.”

The match is part of the opening round of the WTA tournament in Bad Homburg, where Kerber is Sports Director. The former world number one won the tournament’s premiere in 2021, beating Petra Kvitova in the final. She now wants to “give Ivanović nothing for the last time either”.
