Harry Kane is back at FC Bayern—and he’s expected to stay. After his first training session following his vacation, the Englishman spoke about his contract situation.
Harry Kane has less than twelve months remaining on his contract with FC Bayern. The Englishman’s current contract with the German champions expires on June 30, 2027. Bayern wants to keep its top scorer, and Kane is reportedly willing to extend his contract. However—as was already clear—concrete talks were not scheduled to take place until after the World Cup and Kane’s vacation. Now that both events are over, Kane returned to team training on Monday at Säbener Straße alongside the two French players, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano, whom he had faced in the third-place match at the World Cup.
After his first session, he told reporters that while there was “nothing new yet” regarding his contract situation, that was set to change soon. “I don’t know exactly when, but talks will start this week or next,” Kane announced. Despite the short time remaining on his contract, the 33-year-old assured reporters he was “calm,” but also made it clear: “Now is the right time to start talks because the contract only has one year left.” He called it “an important matter, but both sides are relaxed.”
The likely key issue in the talks will be the length of the contract. According to reports, Kane is aiming for three more years on the books—that is, through June 2030—while Bayern’s management is said to have offered a contract through 2029 during talks prior to the World Cup.
90 Minutes in the Super Cup “Not Certain”
Kane, who had previously won no titles, has claimed two German championships and one DFB Cup since his move to Munich in 2023, as well as one Super Cup. Another trophy could be added in a few days when FCB faces Borussia Dortmund in the Super Cup this coming Saturday evening. Kane is likely to be on the roster—but will he be in the starting lineup? That’s “not certain,” Kane said. “I’ve already talked to the coach about it. It’s only been a week of preparation, but I’m used to this quick turnaround. I’ve had these tournaments almost every year of my career.”
Now, he said, they’ll just have to “wait and see” how his fitness holds up after less than a full week of training: “Whether it’s 90 minutes or 45 depends on how I feel this week.”
