Judo: New DJB Board Member Elected

Miryam Roper will become the new board member for competitive sports at the German Judo Federation (DJB). During her active career, the 43-year-old competed in the Olympics three times, among other achievements.

Three-time Olympian Miryam Roper will become the new executive board member for competitive sports at the German Judo Federation (DJB). The federation announced this on Thursday. Roper will succeed Michael Bazynski.

As an active athlete, the 43-year-old placed third at the 2008 World Championships with the team and won individual bronze at the 2012 European Championships. She competed for Germany at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics; in 2021 in Tokyo, after switching federations, she competed for Panama, her father’s country of origin.

Judo: How Roper Describes Her New Role

Since retiring from competition, Roper has been active as a strength and conditioning coach with the North Rhine-Westphalia Judo Association, among other roles. “My role is to create the conditions under which people can develop and thus achieve peak performance,” said Roper, describing her new role as Director of Competitive Sports at the DJB.

According to the federation, the exact start date for Roper in her new position is still being finalized.
