Jorge Martin: Hand surgery details finalised

Jorge Martin will undergo surgery in Italy on Monday – If all goes to plan, the Pramac-Ducati Team rider will not miss a Grand Prix

Jorge Martin has already announced that he will have surgery on his right hand after his home race in Barcelona. Now the details are also known. The operation will be carried out next Monday (6 June) in Italy.

Martin first noticed problems in his right hand during Monday’s test in Jerez at the beginning of May. The situation got worse at the French Grand Prix. During the race he lost all feeling in his right hand. That’s why a crash happened.

“My hand went numb. I could not feel the brake lever. I also couldn’t feel if I was braking hard enough. Finally I missed the braking point and crashed,” Martin had reported after Le Mans.

The cause was a problem with a nerve in his right arm. Already after the France weekend it was decided that an operation would be necessary. Now it is scheduled for the Monday after the Barcelona race.

Ducati has organised everything, so the operation will take place in Italy. At the Orthopaedic University Hospital of Modena, the operation will be carried out by Professor Fabio Catani as well as hand surgeon Luigi Tarallo.

Martin will therefore miss Monday’s test in Barcelona, but doctors expect the Spaniard to be back for the following race at the Sachsenring. The German Grand Prix takes place on 19 June.
