Science City Jena pulls the emergency brake in the relegation battle. According to media reports, coach Björn Harmsen has to resign after the defeat against Braunschweig.
According to the Hamburger Abendblatt, there was a crisis meeting in Jena on Wednesday afternoon and the result was the decision that Björn Harmsen is no longer coach of the promoted team. Jena has since confirmed the decision.
Science City Jena have lost four games in a row recently, including the basement duel against bottom-placed Braunschweig (82:93) on Tuesday, giving them some hope in the relegation battle.
Jena are now just two wins ahead of 17th-placed Heidelberg, but there will be another clash on the penultimate matchday. A successor for Harmsen, whose third term of office in Thuringia is coming to an end, has already been found. It will be Mike Taylor, who has already worked in Ulm, Chemnitz and Hamburg in the BBL.
In addition, the US-American gained a wealth of experience as an assistant coach in the Czech Republic as well as from his time with the Polish national team, which qualified for the 2019 World Cup under his leadership and surprisingly reached the quarter-finals.
