Italian wins in Hamburg

In the final, the Italian, part of the “Golden Generation,” prevailed against Andrey Rublev.

Italian tennis pro Flavio Cobolli has won the ATP tournament in Hamburg. The 23-year-old defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 in Saturday’s final at Rothenbaum. For Cobolli, part of the “Golden Generation” alongside Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti, who are the same age, it was only his second tournament victory ever. Earlier this year, he also triumphed on clay in Budapest.

World number one Sinner had withdrawn from Hamburg after reaching the final of his comeback tournament in Rome following a three-month doping ban. Musetti and other top players also canceled their planned appearances to focus on the French Open in Paris (starting Sunday). Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev, on the other hand, traveled to his home tournament at short notice, but was weakened by an infection and was eliminated in the round of 16.
