Investment increases fortyfold: Jansson is Rapid’s record departure

Swedish player Isak Jansson is leaving SK Rapid after a year and a half in Vienna to move to France. OGC Nice is reportedly paying up to ten million euros to Hütteldorf for the offensive player.

Isak Jansson is ringing the cash registers at SK Rapid like no player before him. With the transfer of the 23-year-old Swede, the Hütteldorf club has achieved a new record sale. OGC Nice is reportedly paying up to ten million euros for the speedy offensive player. A year ago, after half a season on loan, the Green-Whites had paid just 250,000 euros to sign him permanently from Spanish second division club Cartagena.

“On the one hand, I am very pleased that our assessment of Isak Jansson’s qualities a year and a half ago was spot on, but on the other hand, we would of course have liked to have had him in our ranks for a little longer. However, the fact is that we have now jointly come to the decision that a transfer makes sense for all parties involved. Isak, whom I would like to thank for his commitment and wish every success and good health, is now keen to take the step into one of Europe’s top five leagues. As the conditions are right for us too, we would like to give him this opportunity,” explained sporting director Markus Katzer.

Rapid’s previous record transfers were the departures of Maximilian Wöber to Ajax Amsterdam (2017) and Robert Beric to Saint-Étienne (2015). The transfer fee for both players was €7.5 million.

Ten goals for the Green-Whites

Jansson played a total of 45 competitive games for Rapid, scoring ten goals and providing seven assists. His performance statistics in green and white could have been even better had he not been sidelined by a knee injury last fall, which caused him to miss a total of 17 games.
