The DBB team will have to do without Johannes Voigtmann for the rest of the tournament. The center left the team on Saturday to undergo an examination in Munich. Now it is clear that the injury was more serious than initially thought.
Bad news for the German basketball team! Immediately after the end of the record-breaking game against Great Britain, the DBB announced that Johannes Voigtmann would no longer be available for play.
The center, who was still in the starting lineup in the opening game against Montenegro and against Lithuania, has been struggling with knee problems since the preparation phase. The 31-year-old also had to sit out the second European Championship game against Sweden.
On Saturday, Voigtmann left for Munich on medical advice to undergo further examinations. According to the association, a structural injury was discovered: “Further diagnostics revealed damage to the FC Bayern Munich center that requires surgery,” the DBB wrote in a statement.
However, the situation of having to do without Voigtmann is not new for the German national team. In the games against Sweden and Great Britain, Isaac Bonga replaced him in the starting five.
