The former boxing world champion is reported to have collided with a car while cycling in Mallorca.
Former world boxing champion Sven Ottke has apparently been involved in a serious traffic accident in Mallorca. According to Bild, the 58-year-old collided with a car while riding his bicycle. Ottke is said to have suffered a double tibia fracture and a shoulder injury, and according to the report, he had to undergo surgery on his tibia on Tuesday.
“Sven Ottke is doing well under the circumstances,” his former trainer Ulli Wegner told Bild: “I will visit him in the hospital on Wednesday. He was simply run over.”
The “Phantom” Ottke was a professional boxer from 1997 to 2004. The Berlin native won the IBF super middleweight world title in 1998 and also secured the WBA belt in 2003, successfully defending both titles until the end of his career. Ottke won all 34 of his professional fights, six of them by knockout.
