Hamburger SV’s new special jersey has caused a real hype within just a few days – one that is already historic, but also requires patience.
Hamburg SV has already scored a big hit with its recently released special jersey. As the club announced on Monday, the jersey has already sold 70,000 times in just six days.
To mark its 1887th appearance in the Bundesliga, the club, founded in 1887, launched the special jersey under the motto “Sturm und Glanz” (Storm and Splendor) and wore it in last Friday’s away game at 1. FSV Mainz 05 (1-1). The jersey is white with three wide blue horizontal stripes. It also features several gold elements, including the back number. According to the club, the special jersey was already sold out on the first day of sales, February 17, in all brick-and-mortar fan shops and the online shop, and the following day at the equipment suppliers Adidas and 11Teamsports. A total of around 20,000 jerseys had already been sold. Since then, HSV had received another 50,000 orders by Sunday evening after making it possible to reorder.
“With a total of 70,000 sales, the special jersey is the most popular jersey in the club’s history to date and has been sold more often than the home jersey from the 2024/25 promotion season and the home jersey from the current season,” the Bundesliga founding member proudly announced. In addition, 90 percent of the jerseys were ordered with a flock print, half of them with the advertised special flock print “1887 Bundesliga games.”
Many fans will have to wait until summer
In Mainz, Hamburg played their 1888th game in the top flight, with only FC Bayern (2067), Werder Bremen (2059), Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart (both 1991), Borussia Mönchengladbach (1965) and Eintracht Frankfurt (1923) having played more. And at the moment, it looks as if HSV will be playing more games in the new season. However, it will be some time before the majority of buyers can wear their jerseys for the first time. Delivery of back orders is not expected to start for around four months. The fans affected are expected to receive their orders around the change of season in the summer.
