The Karlsruhe tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann puts up a great fight against Luciano Darderi, but still loses his revenge for the final defeat in Chile.
Revenge lost, semi-final missed: Tennis pro Yannick Hanfmann was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the ATP tournament in Marrakesh. After a great fight, the 34-year-old from Karlsruhe was beaten 6:7 (6:8), 5:7 by the top-seeded Italian Luciano Darderi in the Moroccan metropolis.
Five weeks ago in Santiago de Chile, Hanfmann had missed out on his first title on the ATP Tour after a strong tournament by losing to Darderi in the final.
Inspired by this, the world number 61 repeatedly posed problems for Darderi, Hanfmann was also able to rely on his serve (ten aces) and was even ahead with a break early on in the second set – but in the end he also lacked a bit of strength.
