Göttingen pass in Ulm – Bonn lose narrowly against Reggiana

The new BBL season also started for BG Göttingen on Wednesday – with a win in Ulm. Meanwhile, the Bonn team lost to Reggiana from Italy on the international stage.

After missing out on qualification for the FIBA Europe Cup, BG Göttingen started the new season of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) with a win. The team from Lower Saxony won 93-84 (51-47) at ratiopharm Ulm on Matchday 2. It was the second defeat for the home side after the 80-87 opening defeat at Bayern Munich. Mark Smith (28) and Harald Frey (18) were BG’s best shooters, on Ulm’s side Devin Robinson (18) scored best.

In the second game on Wednesday evening, the EWE Baskets from Oldenburg celebrated their second success and moved up to second place in the table behind leaders Telekom Baskets Bonn. The former champions defeated medi Bayreuth 76-72 (44-41) after a hard fight. Trey Drechsel (19) and Dewayne Russell (17) were the most successful scorers for the winners, while Kalif Young scored 14 points for Bayreuth.

Bonn runs out of steam against Reggiana

On the international stage Bonn was challenged against Reggiana, in the Champions League match they suffered a narrow 84:88 (48:49) defeat. After a balanced first half, in which the guests were especially convincing from the three-point line, the game remained on a knife’s edge. In the final quarter, Bonn led 74-71, but after a bitter 0:10 run, they finally left the floor as losers.
