Alexander Zverev has secured his spot at the ATP Finals. He thus follows in the footsteps of the world No. 1.
He reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, finally fulfilled his dream of winning his first Grand Slam title at the French Open, and at Wimbledon, only Jannik Sinner proved stronger in the final: Alexander Zverev has undoubtedly had the best year of his career.
That’s why the Hamburg native now has reason to celebrate: The 29-year-old has already secured his spot in the ATP Finals. The unofficial “Tennis World Cup” will take place in Turin from November 15 to 22.
The ATP itself announced on Thursday that, mathematically speaking, the 29-year-old’s spot can no longer be taken away.
ATP Finals: Zverev Follows Sinner
Zverev is thus the second player, behind world No. 1 Sinner, to have his spot confirmed.
For the German, this will be his ninth appearance at the year-end tournament featuring the top eight players. He has already won the prestigious event in 2018 (London) and 2021 (Turin).
This season, the German has racked up 44 wins, the same number as his rival Sinner. Zverev is currently ranked third in the world but is set to displace the currently injured Carlos Alcaraz from the No. 2 spot before the US Open begins in late August.
