The Davis Cup player defeats a top 10 player and reaches the round of 16 at the last Masters tournament of the season.
Surprise in Paris: Daniel Altmaier knocked world number nine Casper Ruud out of the tournament at the ATP Masters in the French capital. The 27-year-old tennis pro from Kempen won 6-3, 7-5 at the hard court event on Wednesday. His opponent in the round of 16 will be determined by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and Frenchman Alexandre Müller. At the tournament, in which German top player Alexander Zverev is defending his title, Altmaier got off to a strong start.
Altmaier beats Ruud
He caused Ruud real problems on his second serve and took the first set. In the second set, the Davis Cup player remained focused and served for the match, but then had to concede another break.
However, Altmaier kept his cool, showed a strong reaction and shouted out his joy after winning the match.
